Midwest Midwifery Opens New Office

Midwest Midwifery, affiliated with Midwest Women’s Healthcare Specialists and Research Medical Center, has opened a new office at Research Brookside Campus. The practice also serves patients in locations at Research Medical Center, Research Belton Hospital and in North Kansas City.
Midwest Midwifery has long served the expectant mothers in the community, offering an array of safe, natural childbirth options and establishing a reputation for excellence and care that meets each woman’s unique wants and needs. The practice offers comprehensive education, counseling and hands-on assistance through both pregnancy, and labor and delivery. Specific services include preconception and prenatal care, childbirth alternatives such as father-assisted births and pain-relief options, labor and delivery support and breast-feeding guidance and support. The certified nurse midwives of Midwest Midwifery, Sheila Roth, CNM; Katie Lorand, CNM; and Kim Anderson, CNM offer a combined 45-plus years of experience and have delivered thousands of babies.
Sheila Roth has been a certified nurse midwife since 1994 and has assisted in more than 1,500 births. Her experience includes deliveries both within and outside the hospital setting. Roth has been a clinical instructor with the university of Missouri, University of Kansas, State University of New York (SUNY), and the University of Cincinnati. She has participated in speaking engagements in Iowa, Missouri and Kansas, including presenting on topics on non-interventive birthing, water birth, and holistic interventions for women of childbearing age though menopause. Roth supports and believes in fully informed disclosure with intervention following consent, as supported by the midwifery model of care and practices. Her specialties are nutritional, supplemental and herbal interventions with healthy lifestyle choices. Roth was certified through San Jose University.
Katie Lorand has been a nurse-midwife since 1997 and has practiced midwifery in several different types of settings in four different states. Having seen and experienced many different approaches to pregnancy and childbirth, she believes strongly in the ability of women and their families to make good choices about their childbearing options when given complete and accurate information, and she is committed to supporting women in their choices. She has a particular interest in working with underserved populations and in working with couples that desire natural childbirth options. Lorand completed her nursing training at Johns Hopkins University. She received her midwifery training at Boston University, where she also received a Master’s degree in Public Health.
Kim Anderson has practiced midwifery in a variety of environments, from rural Alaska to urban Kansas City and is active in maternal child issues in the Kansas City area. Her goal is to promote the Midwifery Model of Care and to empower women to make informed choices about their healthcare. Anderson is an active member of the American College of Nurse-Midwives and has served as past Vice-president and President of the Greater Kansas City Chapter. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Central Missouri State University and a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) specializing in midwifery, from the University of Missouri.
