WHAT: Ninth Annual Community Block Party and Health Fair promoting healthy, fit families hosted by The Research Foundation and sponsored by Research Medical Center. Free health screenings, one-mile Fun Walk, family-oriented activities, free bike helmet giveaways from the Brain Injury Association of Kansas City and Greater Kansas City for the first 100 children and areas including "Eat Healthy, Get Fit, Be Happy" and Injury Prevention will be featured, along with a Children’s Activity Area sponsored by Research College of Nursing. The KC Zoomobile will also be available in the children's area as well as complimentary snow cones. The Injury Prevention Area sponsored by ThinkFirst of Greater Kansas City will feature the KCMO Police Department Bearcat and Rollover, the KCFD Firetruck and the Missouri Highway Patrol Seatbelt Convincer. There will also be a Free Car Seat Check sponsored by Safe Kids KC/Mother and Child Coalition. The "Eat Healthy. Get Fit, Be Happy" Area will include complimentary snacks, a food cooking demonstration and Ivanhoe's Neighborhood=Grown Farm Stand Vendors. There will be yoga demonstrations at 11 a.m. and 12:15 p.m.; Zumba demonstrations at 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.; and relaxation techniques at 10:30 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. Free flu shots will be provided by the Department of Health and Human Services in partnership with Walgreens. New this year is the Cancer Warriors Pink Sports Car, which allows cancer survivors and others who have lost loved ones to cancer to sign the car. Free books will be distributed by the Kansas City Public Libraries.
