The Center for Facial Pain at the Midwest Neuroscience Institute at Research Medical Center offers comprehensive care for the diagnosis and treatment of all types of facial pain, including trigeminal neuralgia.
Medical and surgical services include:
- Balloon compression
- Microvascular decompression
- Motor cortex stimulation
- Percutaneous Radiofrequency Trigeminal Rhizotomy
- Stereotactic radiosurgery (Gamma Knife)

Pain associated with the face is a complex disorder requiring a multidisciplinary team of specialists to care for the patient needs.
The Center for Facial Pain is led by Jonathan Chilton, MD, neurosurgeon. Dr. Chilton is renowned for his expertise in microvascular decompression, a complex surgical procedure which helps to eliminate pain while preserving surrounding nerve tissue.
Our Team of Neurosurgical Specialists
Jonathan D. Chilton, MD
Dr. Chilton attended medical school at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry in Rochester, NY. He received a Masters in Public Health from Columbia University in New York City. He completed his neurosurgery residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC and is board certified in neurosurgery.
Dr. Chilton is the Director of the Midwest Gamma Knife Center, the first dedicated cranial radiosurgery facility in the five state region.
Peter Basta, MD
Dr. Basta attended medical school at the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee. He completed his neurosurgical residency at Saint Louis University and completed his fellowship in cerebrovascular and skull base neurosurgery at Indianapolis Neurosurgical Group.
William S. Rosenberg, MD
Dr. Rosenberg attended medical school at Harvard Medical School in Boston, MA. He completed his neurosurgical residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and is board certified in neurosurgery.
Dr. Rosenberg specializes in the surgical management of pain. Through an inter-disciplinary approach, the patient is assessed, screened and managed in one setting. This patient centered treatment offers help for the highest quality of life possible to those who suffer with chronic intractable pain.
