MR Spectroscopy

MR Spectroscopy is a non-invasive test that allows technicians and physicians to view the different kinds of chemicals in the human body. Because every chemical is different, the differences can be used to identify the chemicals and determine how much of them are present in the image. It’s different from a regular MRI in that a regular MRI can capture only the solids or liquids and cannot distinguish between them. MR spectroscopy equipment can be “tuned” to pick up signals from different chemicals. The most common chemicals are hydrogen, phosphorus, sodium and fluorine.
