Research Medical Center is one of the top hospitals in Kansas City for door-to-balloon time. The door-to-balloon time is the amount of time it takes from the moment the patient arrives at the door of the Emergency Department until they are in the catheterization lab and the blocked artery is open. When someone is having a heart attack, “time is muscle” – that is why so much emphasis is put on the door-to-balloon time when a person is having an ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI), a life-threatening heart attack. The national goal for door-to-balloon time is 90 minutes.

Research Medical Center is part of Midwest Heart Care accredited chest pain center network. These hospitals consistently deliver the fastest door-to-balloon times in the Kansas City area. 100 percent of our patients receive door-to-balloon times under 90 minutes. We provide these scores so that you can compare us to hospitals at a national, regional or local level – we're confident that you'll put your trust in Research Medical Center.

The hospital consistently receives the American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines® – Heart Failure Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes the hospital’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack victims by ensuring that they receive treatment according to nationally accepted standards and recommendations. This is Research Medical Center’s second performance recognition received for heart failure treatment.
